The treble booster is one of rock's great unsung heroes. Plug a Rangemaster-style booster into a Vox AC30 and you get the sound that defined a generation — the searing, singing, harmonically saturated overdrive heard on Queen records, Rory Gallagher live albums, and Marc Bolan's finest moments. The problem has always been getting hold of one that actually works. Vintage germanium units are rare, expensive, and temperamental — they drift with temperature, they hiss, and no two sound quite the same.
The VTB-1 solves this properly. Rather than simply swapping germanium for silicon and hoping for the best, Vox spent months analysing original units and modelling their behaviour, developing a single-transistor silicon circuit built around a hand-selected Silver Can BC108 that genuinely captures that wide, nonlinear response. The result is a booster that cleans up beautifully when you roll back your guitar volume, sings when you push it, and stays quiet and consistent night after night. The Fat switch widens the frequency boost for a fuller, more powerful push — essential if you're running humbuckers or want a thicker voice into a darker amp. Dead simple to use. Devastatingly effective.
