A-PRE-HMSTRAT
Pre-Owned: Own a piece of Fender metal history! This guitar is in great condition and is a real collectors item.
The Fender HM Strat was an electric guitar produced by Fender Musical Instruments from 1988 until 1992. It represented a relatively radical departure from Leo Fender’s classic Stratocaster design, serving as Fender’s answer to Superstrats produced by manufacturers like Jackson Guitars and Ibanez. The “HM” in the guitar’s name stands for heavy metal. Made famous by the guitarist Greg Howe.
The bridge pickup for this model was custom-made. Fender approached DiMarzio to create a new pickup for their HM guitars. DiMarzio modified their Super Distortion pickup, enhancing the mids and reducing the treble, and presented it to Fender as a prototype. Fender tested it and found it to be a perfect fit. They decided to go with this prototype without further modifications. Initially called the DiMarzio H1 and/or H2, it was designated with an “H” to indicate it was “Made Exclusively for Fender.” After the HM Strat was discontinued, this pickup was released to the general public in 1994 under the name Super 3.
