Introduced in 1961, the SG Standard is a classic guitar that was originally called the 'Les Paul' model, but was renamed the 'SG'(which stands for 'Solid Guitar') in 1963 after Les Paul and Gibson ended their endorsement deal. It was designed to be a lightweight alternative to the Les Paul and features a thinner, double cutaway mahogany body, slim-tapered neck and a rosewood fingerboard.
